Health Care Engineering Systems Center Graduate Research Assistant

The University of Illinois Health Care Engineering Systems Center is looking to hire a Graduate Research Assistant from Computer Science, ECE, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or equivalent to work on developing cutting edge technologies related to healthcare and wellness. These projects will require you to work on interdisciplinary teams. We are looking for students with strong programming skills, with the ability to work independently and work towards deadlines.

The following skills are required:

  • Virtual Reality Development
    • Strong programming skills in one of the following: C#, Java
    • Prior knowledge or experience working with Unity
    • Interest in working with cutting edge, consumer VR systems like the Oculus Quest
    • Knowledge of source control tools like GitHub
    • Ability to collaborate and work within an interdisciplinary team consisting of faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students
    • Should be a self-starter and work effectively in self-directed and proactive manner towards a deadline
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Medical Robotics, AI, and Machine Learning
    • Controls
    • Mechanical design and fabrication
    • Mobile application development
    • Wi-Fi/Bluetooth communication protocols
    • Various techniques in supervised and unsupervised machine learning, computer vision, and NLP

Health Care Engineering Systems Center Undergraduate Hourly Researcher

The University of Illinois Health Care Engineering Systems Center is looking to hire undergraduate students (for multiple projects) as an hourly researcher to work on developing cutting edge applications in healthcare simulation. These projects will require you to work on interdisciplinary teams. We are looking for strong candidates in Computer Science, ECE, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or equivalent, with the ability to work independently and work towards deadlines. Applicants must be at least Junior standing with a strong academic record. These positions will be filled on a rolling basis.

Consider applying if you have skills in the following areas:

  • Virtual Reality Development
    • Unity Development: C# (or equivalent, i.e. Java, C++)
    • Working with VR headsets: Oculus Quest, HTC Vive
    • Familiarity with VR frameworks: VRTK, Unity’s XR toolkit
    • 3D modeling and animation
  • Simulation Hardware Development
    • Familiarity with circuit analysis concepts, basic measurement techniques, sensors and control, solving differential equations, object-oriented programming
    • Well-rounded knowledge of electrical components (transistors, capacitors, diodes, inductors, etc.), with expertise in selecting components for various design goals
    • Solid foundation in hands-on electrical R&D and prototyping using various electrical lab instruments (oscilloscope, power supply, frequency generator, data-logger, etc.)
    • Experience with microcontroller platforms (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
    • Fluency in languages such as C++, Python, C#, Java, etc.
    • Experience in rapid prototyping using 3D modeling and fabrication
