Inki Kim is the  Assistant Director of Research in Medical Simulation in the Health Care Engineering Systems Center. His main research interests are in engineering design, analysis, and improvement of "human-in-the-loop" systems that rely on streamlined human interaction with highly automated machines. Recent areas of study include robot-assisted surgery, driver interaction with autonomous vehicles, supervisory control of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), and virtual and augmented reality.

Prior to joining the Health Care Engineering Systems Center, Dr. Kim was an assistant professor in Systems and Information Engineering at the University of Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University.
